India demands extradition against Dalla
In a significant development in the case, India has indicated to make a formal request for the extradition of Arsh Dalla. Dalla is accused of being involved in several serious criminal cases and terrorism activities in India. Dalla was declared a terrorist by the Indian Home Ministry in 2023.
In July 2023, India requested the Canadian government for the temporary arrest of Dalla. However, this request was rejected at that time. But now the recent arrest in Canada has expedited the extradition process. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said- We have taken cognizance of media reports about the arrest of Arsh Dalla in Canada. He was arrested on November 10, and Canadian print and visual media have reported extensively on the incident.

Jaiswal said that keeping in mind Dalla's pending criminal cases in India and his involvement in illegal activities in Canada, Indian agencies are working on taking the extradition process forward. He said that due to the crimes of Arsh Dalla, it is expected that he will be brought to India and brought to justice. Our agencies will take necessary action on extradition in view of the recent arrest.
Had demanded arrest in 2023 also
India had demanded Canada's arrest of Dalla in 2023. But the Canadian government rejected this demand at that time. Meanwhile, in January 2023, India had informed Canada about Dalla's suspicious address, his transactions in India, his assets and mobile numbers.
India had asked Canada to verify this information under the MLAT treaty (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty). In December 2023, the Canadian Department of Justice had sought additional information from India on the matter. India responded to this in March.
Dalla is named in more than 50 cases
Arsh is close to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and more than 50 cases are pending against him in India. These include murder, attempt to murder, extortion, terrorist activities and terror funding.
In May 2022, the Government of India had issued a Red Corner Notice against Arsh Dalla. After this, he was declared a terrorist in the year 2023.
To avoid arrest, Arsh fled from Punjab to Canada and started carrying out his activities from there. Indian agencies have been trying to catch Dalla for a long time.
