Taliban has issued a new decree for women in Afghanistan. According to the report of Afghan news channel Amu TV, women have been banned from praying loudly. Taliban Minister Mohammad Khalid Hanafi has issued this order.
He said that women will have to read the verses of the Quran in such a low voice that other women present near them cannot hear it. Hanafi said that women are not allowed to recite Takbir or Azaan, hence they cannot sing songs nor listen to music.
According to the report, Hanafi said that women's voice is 'aurah', i.e. something that needs to be hidden. Our women's voices should not be heard in public or even by other women. At present this order is limited only to reading the Quran, but many experts have expressed apprehension that the Taliban may also ban women from speaking in public.
After the return of Taliban in Afghanistan, atrocities against women have increased.
Restrictions on speaking of women health workers A nurse working in Herat, Afghanistan, told Amu TV that female healthcare workers are not allowed to speak in public places. Also, they cannot talk to the male employees working in the hospital about anything related to work.
Even two months ago, the English newspaper The Guardian had claimed in its report that the Taliban had banned women from speaking. They were also ordered to always cover their body and face with thick cloth in public places.
Taliban supremo had said- men's minds can get distracted by women's voices. The new laws were approved by Taliban Supreme Leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada. Giving the reason behind the laws, he had said that even the voice of women can distract men. To avoid this, women should refrain from speaking in public places.
On August 15, 2021, power in Afghanistan came to the hands of Taliban for the second time. From that day onwards restrictions on women were increased. First of all, women working in different government institutions had their jobs snatched away. Then restrictions were imposed on his studies. In Afghanistan, women can study only till sixth grade. Apart from this, there is also a ban on entry of adult women into mosques.
What is Sharia law of Afghanistan? After capturing Afghanistan, Taliban had said that Sharia law would be implemented in the country. Actually, Sharia is like a legal system for people who believe in Islam. It is used in many Islamic countries. However, it is not fully implemented in most Islamic countries including Pakistan. It contains laws on many big issues ranging from everyday life.
Sharia includes laws related to family, finance and business. Drinking alcohol, using drugs or trafficking is one of the major crimes under Sharia law. This is why there are strict punishment rules for these crimes.
