In the year 1979, a heart patient came to Dr. Pratap Chandra Reddy of Chennai. His condition was serious. At that time, Dr. Reddy was a leading cardiologist in the country. The patient's treatment started, but his condition was not improving. At that time there were no good facilities in the country for heart surgery. Dr. Reddy advised the patient to go to America immediately. Even before this, Dr. Reddy had sent many patients to America for treatment. The patient could not go to America and died within a few days.
After this accident, Dr. Reddy decided to build better hospitals in India. At that time hospital was not recognized as a business in India. Because of this Dr. Reddy was not getting bank loan. There was also 100% tax on medical devices. Dr. Reddy made about 50 trips to Delhi for this. Met many government officials and leaders. In the year 1982, Congress Party leader GK Moopanar made him meet Indira Gandhi.
In the year 1983, with the help of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Dr. Reddy built the first Apollo Hospital in Chennai. Starting a 150-bed multispecialty hospital, Dr. Reddy created India's first corporate hospital chain.

The hospital was named after the Greek god Apollo.
The name of the hospital was chosen by Dr. Reddy's second daughter, Sunita. Sunita had told Dr. Reddy that the hospital should be named after the Greek god Apollo because the Greek god Apollo is associated with medicine and science.
In the year 1996, Apollo entered the stock market. After this the focus was on starting Apollo Hospital in small towns. The company benefited from this in the long term.
Technology made treatment easier
Apollo Hospital provided facilities like telemedicine facility, global consultant, so that people can consult doctors over phone or online and get better treatment. Besides, a research center was also built for better treatment and medicines. The company is continuously working in the area of ​​developing high technology treatments.
In the year 1983 itself, the first pharmacy was started in Chennai along with the first Apollo Hospital. Today Apollo Pharmacy has more than 6000 outlets. There are 37 thousand orders in Apollo Pharmacy every day. The profit of these pharmacy outlets has increased by 17% year-on-year. This year the revenue of Apollo Pharmacy business has reached Rs 2,282 crore.
Daughters took risky decisions
Dr. Reddy's four daughters Preeta Reddy, Sunita Reddy, Shobhana Kamineni and Sangeeta Reddy were associated with Apollo from the beginning. She was looking after the company's work like pamphlets, hospital construction and interior design. In the year 2010, the daughters completely took charge of the company. Took important decisions related to sectors like pharmacy, innovation, management and finance.

Father wanted Dr. Reddy to do MBA Pratap Chandra Reddy, Founder and CEO of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited, was born on 5 February 1933 in Argonda Madras. He is a cardiologist i.e. heart specialist by profession. He is known for revolutionizing healthcare in India. He was the first person from his family and village to study in college. Dr. Reddy did his graduation in Science. His father wanted him to do MBA. However, he could not apply on time and hence did not get admission.
He did MBBS from Stanley Medical College. He went to Britain for further studies and became a cardiologist. After marriage, he shifted to America with his wife and four daughters. Then one day in 1971, a letter came from Dr. Reddy's house and he returned to India with his entire family.
