Actor Siddhant Gupta has played the role of serial killer Charles Sobhraj in the web series 'Black Warrant'. In this series, his crimes are shown through the testimony of former Tihar Jail jailer Sunil Gupta.
Recently in a conversation with Dainik Global News Daily, Siddhant discussed his experience of playing the character of Shobhraj and its challenges. Also, writer Satyanshu Singh and director Vikramaditya Motwane also shared their experiences.
Understanding Charles Sobhraj was a different journey
Siddhant Gupta told that it was not easy for him to get into this role. He said, 'The biggest thing was that how can a person remain normal even after committing such big crimes? I read books and tried to understand how such people justify their actions. Gradually I felt that I started understanding his thinking, and then it became easy for me to play this character.

Siddhant also told that during the shooting, he got so deeply immersed in the character that even after returning home, the influence of Charles Sobhraj remained on his mind. He said, 'Many times it felt as if I myself had started thinking like him. His personality and style were very complex, but when things were understood, everything started flowing automatically. It was a bit scary but an interesting experience.

Writer Satyanshu Singh talks about his process of writing the script and Charles Sobhraj. He said, 'It was a big challenge to understand a person like Charles Sobhraj and to portray his actions correctly on screen. Along with a criminal mind, he also had a unique charm. It was not easy to balance this while writing the script.

Director Vikramaditya Motwane said about Siddhant's performance, 'Siddhant was completely immersed in this role. Even outside the set he used to behave like Charles Sobhraj. His hard work and dedication made this character so real.
