Director Indra Kumar has revealed that none of Madhuri Dixit's films were running in the 80s. The film in which she was seen would have flopped. Because of this, people in the industry started considering him ill-fated. Directors were hesitant in casting him in their films.
In an interview given to Siddharth Kanan, Indra Kumar said – At that time Aamir Khan had only one hit film – Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Whereas not even a single film of Madhuri was successful. He was called wretched.
Even when I signed her in the film Dil with Aamir Khan, everything was fine. But when I signed him for the film Beta, everyone said – you have gone mad. There is no movie playing there.
Indra Kumar had expressed confidence in Madhuri
He further said- By that time an interview had come in which it was said that Madhuri is a wretched actress. Whatever film she is in, it flops. Still, I started working with Madhuri in both the films Beta and Dil in 1988. I trusted him. My heart was saying that there is something in this, there is something in this.
Madhuri became a hit actress after the success of Tezaab and Ram Lakhan.
Indra Kumar also told that after giving two blockbuster hits, Tezaab and Ram Lakhan, his flop tag disappeared. He said- After this, I was also lucky. I started the film in October and Tezaab was released in December 1988 and Ram Lakhan was released in January 1989. In this way Madhuri's flop tag was removed.
