Due to a malfunction in the spacecraft, both astronauts are stranded in the space station.
US Space Agency NASA has informed that Astronaut Sunita Williams and her colleague Bush Wilmore will participate in a press conference today. Both the astronauts will join the press conference via video call from the International Space Station (ISS) to Earth. This conference will take place at 12:15 am on Friday night as per Indian time.
Both astronauts flew to the space station on June 5. Sunita and Wilmore reached the space station on June 6. They were to return on June 13.
However, their return has been postponed due to a technical fault in NASA's Boeing Starliner spacecraft. Both are expected to return only in 2025.
It has been 100 days since both astronauts have been in space.
Starliner spacecraft returns to Earth The spacecraft carrying astronaut Sunita Williams and her colleague Bush Wilmore to the space station landed safely back on Earth on September 7 after 3 months. It landed with the help of 3 large parachutes and airbags. According to NASA, the spacecraft separated from the International Space Station (ISS) at 3:30 am on Saturday morning as per Indian time. It took about 6 hours to reach Earth.
Starliner entered the Earth's atmosphere at 9:15 am. Its speed then was about 2,735 km per hour. It landed at 9:32 am in the White Sand Space Harbor (desert) in New Mexico, USA.
Boeing Company had built this spacecraft for NASA. Information about technical problems and leakage of helium gas in the spacecraft had come to light. But there were many doubts about its safe return.
NASA had said on August 24 that due to safety issues in the Starliner, Butch and Sunita would not be brought back to Earth.
Former NASA astronaut said- bringing empty spacecraft was the right decision Former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman told CNN that NASA's decision to bring an empty spacecraft was absolutely correct. Reisman is currently associated with Elon Musk's SpaceX. He said that even though the Starliner has landed safely, no one was sure about its safe landing.

Since the Space Shuttle program was discontinued, the US has been using Russia's Soyuz spacecraft to reach the ISS. However, amid deteriorating relations between the two countries, the US wants to end its dependence on Russia. In such a situation, it is betting on private players.
