Today (Wednesday, December 18) is Paush Krishna Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha is considered to be the lord of Chaturthi Tithi, because Lord Ganapati appeared on this date. Devotees observing Chaturthi fast remain fasting throughout the day and do special worship of Lord Ganesha. After moon darshan in the evening, the fast is completed by doing Chandra puja and Ganesh puja. In worship, mantras containing 12 names of Lord Ganesha should be chanted. It is believed that worshiping with these mantras becomes successful quickly.

Sumukhscha ekadantascha kapilo gajakarnakah.
Lambodarshch vikto vighnanasho ganadhipah.
Dhumravarno Bhalchandro Vinayak: Ganeshwar.
Gajananah द्वादशाइतानी नामानी यह पाठेनरः॥
Na cha vighnabhayam tasya sarvassiddhikaram param.
These mantras have 12 names of Lord Ganesha – Sumukh, Ekdant, Kapil, Gajkarnak, Lambodar, Vikat, Vighnarajendra, Dhumravarna, Bhalchandra, Vinayak, Ganapati, Gajanan. If you are not able to chant the mantra, you can also worship while meditating on these 12 names of Lord Ganesha.

| After bath, install the idol of Lord Ganesha in the home temple. Bathe Lord Ganesha with Panchamrit and water. Decorate him with necklaces, flowers and clothes. Offer sacred thread, abeer, sandalwood, gulal and other worship materials. Offer 21 lumps of Durva to the Lord. Offer jaggery, coconut, sweets and modak. During the puja, light incense sticks and lamps and perform aarti while chanting the mantra Om Gan Ganpataye Namah. Do Parikrama. After performing Aarti, apologize to God for your known or unknown mistakes. After this, distribute the Prasad and take it yourself. |
