According to Ujjain's astrologer Pt. Manish Sharma, on Hartalika Teej, the husband should also worship Shiva-Parvati along with the wife for a happy married life. If the husband and wife worship together, then love and respect for each other increases.
There are many rituals in the Puja, which the husband and wife have to do together. Due to these rituals, mutual coordination increases. After the Puja, the husband and wife should together donate Suhaag items like red saree, red bangles, kumkum, bindiya to a needy woman.
After Ganesh Puja, start worshipping Shiva-Parvati
Ganesha, the son of Shiva-Parvati, is the first worshipped deity. It is believed that Shiva-Parvati are pleased with his worship. Offer durva to Ganesha. Offer modaks. Light incense and perform aarti. After Ganesha, perform abhishek of Shiva-Parvati and duly worship them. Hartalika Vrat is observed by fasting the whole day. Some women do not even drink water during this fast. On Teej, auspicious works like worship, mantra chanting, meditation, bhajan-kirtan, charity etc. should be done throughout the day. Women observing this fast should read and listen to the stories of Shiva-Parvati.
Mythological beliefs related to Hartalika Teej
Goddess Parvati is the ruler of Teej or Tritiya Tithi. There is a mythological belief regarding Hartalika Teej Vrat that Goddess Parvati was the first one to observe this fast. Parvati wanted to have Lord Shiva as her husband and to fulfil this wish, the Goddess started rigorous penance from Hartalika Teej. Lord Shiva was pleased with the Goddess' penance and gave her the boon she wanted. After this, Parvati and Lord Shiva were married. On Hartalika Teej, worship is done five times a day i.e. five times a day. After Teej, on the morning of Chaturthi, Lord Shiva, Parvati and Lord Ganesha made of sand are worshipped. After the worship, these idols are immersed in a river, pond or any other water source. After this worship, charity is done and then women consume food and water. On Teej, visit and worship the temples of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Perform Jalabhishek of Shivling. Offer Bilva leaves. Apply sandalwood paste on Shivling. Adorn with garlands and flowers. Light incense and perform aarti. Offer sweets.
