Ganesh Chaturthi fast on 18th December: Auspicious yoga of worshiping Lord Ganesha as well as planet Mercury, donate green gram and offer water to the moon.

Tomorrow i.e. Wednesday, 18th December is Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month. Ganesh Chaturthi fast will be observed on this day. On this day, devotees remain fasting throughout the day and do special worship of Lord Ganesha. Read and listen to the stories of God and after seeing the moon in the evening, complete the fast by doing Chandra Puja and Ganesh Puja. On the occasion of Wednesday and Ganesh Chaturthi, special worship should be done for Lord Ganesha as well as planet Mercury.

On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi fast, wake up early in the morning and after bath, light a lamp and incense in front of the idol or picture of Lord Ganesha.

Offer water, milk, Panchamrit to Lord Ganesha. Decorate with necklaces, flowers and clothes. Offer Durva (Doob), red flowers, modak, jaggery and coconut.

Chant the mantra Om Gan Ganpataye Namah. 21 lumps of Durva should be offered to Ganpati.

On this day, after moonrise in the evening, Arghya should be offered to the Moon God. Offer water and milk to the moon. To offer Arghya to the Moon, a silver pot or an earthen pot should be used. While offering Arghya, chant the mantra Om Somay Namah.

Paush month is the tenth month of Hindi calendar. There is a tradition of doing special worship of Sun God in this month.
