Dr. AB Phillips, popularly known as 'The Liver Doc' on the social media platform X, is often in the news. He is known for presenting scientific arguments against misconceptions related to healthcare. Recently, a heated debate broke out between Zoho Corporation co-founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu and AB Phillips over the benefits of walking barefoot on grass. Sridhar Vembu is the 55th richest person in India, but he is not a doctor.
Sridhar Vembu shared his personal experience of walking barefoot in his farm for almost a year. He said that grounding has many health benefits and is a very simple task. The best part is that it does not cost a single penny. He encouraged other people to try it and suggested that it is beneficial to connect with the energy of the earth by walking on natural surfaces like grass.
In response to this, Dr. AB Phillips has written that grounding is a completely pseudoscientific practice. This means that there is a practice which people have been doing for years considering it to be scientific, but in reality there is no scientific logic behind it. This debate raises the question as to which of the two is more correct.
so today 'health report' We will talk about grounding i.e. earthing. Also, we will know that-
what is grounding
Grounding means direct contact of the skin with the surface of the earth. For this, one can walk on the ground barefoot, one can touch the ground with one's hand or any part of the body can come in direct contact with the ground.
The logic behind this is that our body is a bio-electric system. When we connect physically with the ground, its electrical energy rebalances our own electrical energy. People who support grounding believe that diseases have increased in the past because we have started wearing shoes and slippers made of rubber. Rubber is a poor conductor of electricity, so our electrical energy becomes unbalanced and we fall ill.
What are the correct methods of earthing
As much as there is debate on whether earthing is beneficial or not, there is also a debate on its techniques. Some people believe that in earthing, it is absolutely necessary for our body to have direct contact with the ground. While others believe that if a person uses any electrical product, then it also has the same benefits.
However, Dr. Mark Albers, a neurosurgeon at Massachusetts Hospital, believes that if someone is telling the benefits of grounding, then he is telling to stay away from all electronic devices and amidst trees, plants and grass for some time. This is because no such connection has been found in the studies done so far, which can confirm that grounding has any health benefits. The benefits that are obtained from this are due to staying in solitude among trees and plants for some time, away from all the troubles of the world.
All these methods are part of the earthing technique. The good thing about these techniques is that they take us away from the hustle and bustle of life for a few hours or a few days. There are certainly benefits to mental and physical health by walking in nature.
What are the benefits of earthing
There is not much research on its health benefits. The sample size of the studies on the basis of which its benefits are talked about is very small and the data is also not very accurate. Therefore, doctors and scientists say that very concrete claims cannot be made about this. Usually, 7 benefits of this are mentioned.
Mark Albers refutes these claims
Dr. Mark Albers says that living close to nature can definitely benefit physical and mental health. By having a better mind and body, it is also possible that it can help in the treatment of any chronic health condition. However, the claim that diseases can be prevented or cured by earthing does not seem logical at all.
Can there be any disadvantages of grounding?
According to Dr. Mark Albers, despite the scientific arguments given for grounding not being correct, it has many benefits. However, precautions must be taken while practicing it, otherwise it can cause many harms.
