Paush, the tenth month of Hindi calendar, starts: The first Ekadashi fast of Paush month will be observed on 26th December, Paush month will last till 13th January.

Kharmas is starting with Dhanu Sankranti (Monday, 16 December). This time there are differences in the calendar regarding the date of Dhanu Sankranti. In some almanacs the date of this Sankranti has been given as 15th. Sun is especially worshiped in Kharmas. Religious texts should be read in this month. One should listen to the sermons of saints. Along with this, there is a tradition of donating money, grains, clothes, shoes and slippers to the needy people.

Ganesh Chaturthi fast will be observed on Wednesday, 18th. This fast is observed for Lord Ganesha. On this day, devotees remain fasting throughout the day, do special worship of Lord Ganesha, read and listen to stories of God and in the evening, after moon darshan, they complete their fast by doing Chandra Puja and Ganesh Puja.

The first Ekadashi of Pausha month i.e. Saphala Ekadashi will be on Thursday, 26th December. This fast is observed for Lord Vishnu. All the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled by the fasting and worship done on this day. Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya mantra should be chanted on this day.

Amavasya of Paush month will be on Monday, 30th December. Since Amavasya occurs on Monday, its name is Somvati Amavasya. On this day, incense meditation is especially done for the ancestors. Do special anointment of Lord Shiva on the occasion of Monday and Amavasya. Offer water, milk and Panchamrit on Shivalinga. Apply sandalwood paste on Shivling. Light incense sticks and perform aarti.

Vinayaki Chaturthi fast will be observed on Friday, January 3, 2025. This fast is observed to get the blessings of Lord Ganesha. Do special worship of Lord Ganesha on this day. Offer Durva and Modak to God. Chant the mantra Om Gan Ganpatayai Namah.

The name of the second Ekadashi of Pausha month is Putrada Ekadashi. This fast will be observed on Friday, January 10. It is believed that observing this fast brings happiness to the devotee's children. Putrada Ekadashi fast is observed to remove problems related to children.

The full moon of Paush month will be on Monday, January 13. This time there will be no Makar Sankranti in the month of Paush. This festival will be celebrated on 14 January. There is a tradition of reading and listening to the story of Lord Satyanarayan on Paush Purnima. On this day, there is a tradition of taking bath in holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, Shipra. Along with worshiping, donating also has special significance on this day.
