Sukant Majumdar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that 5,182 posts are still vacant in Central Universities. This number is as per the date of 31 October 2024.
Recruitment has been done on 7,650 posts
The Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission monitor the institutions and direct the Central Universities on a regular basis. The responsibility of recruitment on these posts rests with the Central Universities. Majumdar said, '7,650 posts were filled through special recruitment mode.'

In response, Majumdar said, “Filling vacant posts is a regular process and retirement, resignation of students and increase in the number of students are also major reasons for vacant posts.
25,777 posts were filled in October
UGC had launched a portal on May 2, 2023 to provide a single platform for all Central Universities, advertisements or job listings.
25,777 posts have been filled through Central Higher Education Institute (CHEI) mission mode.
Employment to 24 lakh people in five years
Minister Jitendra Singh said that 34,809 employment fairs have been organized in the last 5 years. 24 lakh candidates have got jobs through these.
He said that through the National Career Service (NCS) project under the control of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, in five years, 26.8 lakh job aspirants and 83,913 employers participated in the employment fairs and 24.3 lakh candidates have been selected.
