54 year old Harini Amarasuriya has been elected the 16th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. She is the third woman in the country to become the Prime Minister. Before joining politics, she had been a professor at the Open University of Sri Lanka. Harini has graduated from Delhi University, India. He studied Sociology at Hindu College, DU. Schools and colleges were closed due to the Tamil movement. In the year 1988-89, the situation in Sri Lanka became violent due to the Tamil movement.
