Savjibhai Dhelakia, founder and chairman of diamond manufacturing and export company Hari Krishna Exports, is a person who has risen from zero to the top. Savjibhai's company is known worldwide for its good quality diamonds.
The company polishes 40 thousand diamonds every month and 5 lakh diamonds every year. From world records to planting millions of trees to building more than 160 lakes, HK Exports has many achievements to its name.
Savjibhai himself was called Heera Ghissu (diamond grinder) for years, but when he opened his own company, he gave the diamond cutters the respected name 'Diamond Engineer'. He has also set a condition for his employees that no one will eat paan-gutkha-masala in the factory.
Savjibhai Dholakia was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022.
Had left home with twelve and a half rupees
Savjibhai Dholakia was born on 12 April 1962 in Dudhala village of Amreli district of Gujarat. Father was a farmer. Due to financial constraints at home, he left studies at the age of 12. In 1977, he came to his uncle in Surat with twelve and a half rupees. Uncle was a diamond merchant. Learned the intricacies of diamond trading with him.
After a few years, he started grinding diamonds in a diamond workshop in Surat. At that time the salary was only Rs 180. Kept working here as a diamond cutter for ten years.
Savjibhai felt that if he did his own diamond grinding work, he could earn more money. Borrowed some money from his uncle and started polishing diamonds with his friends.
His work started going well. In 1992, along with his brothers Himmat and Tulsi, he started a separate company named Hari Krishna Exports. Within a year the company did a business of Rs 1 crore. By 1995 the company's turnover reached Rs 13 crore.

Mother had said three things in childhood
Once when Savjibhai came to his village from Surat, mother Phuliben Dholakia explained to him. Mother said that if you cannot study then do some business. Mother wanted that Savji should become a good and great man. After listening to his mother, Savjibhai decided that he would earn a lot of money and become a good man.
In an interview, Savji says, 'At the age of 18, I promised my mother to earn Rs 1 lakh, become a good man and a big man. After some time, I earned Rs 1 lakh, but the thought of becoming a good and great man always kept wandering in my mind. From here I got five ideas. Made these five things the motto of my life. After which I kept following these five things throughout my life.
HK Jewels launched
By 2001-02, the company also started cutting diamonds ranging from 0.18 cents to 0.98 cents. In the same year the turnover of the company also crossed Rs 100 crore. The company's growth in 2002-03 was 300 percent.
In 2002 the company also launched a new jewelery brand HK Jewels. In 2005, Savjibhai launched two more new brands. They were named HK Design and Kisna Diamond Jewellery. Kisna Diamond Jewelery is India's largest domestic diamond jewelery brand with over 3000 outlets across 29 states. Kisna has also won several awards.
Today we do business in 86 countries
In 2008, the company built a new Hari Krishna campus in Surat, where diamonds are cut. The revenue of Hari Krishna Exports is also more than Rs 10 thousand crores. HK Exports' business is spread in 86 countries around the world, including Canada, America, Arab and European countries.
More than 8000 employees work in the company. Apart from this, the company has also received 'Great Place to Work' certificate. Which means that the employees working in the company are happy because of the positive work space here.
Savjibhai gifts cars, houses and jewelery to his employees every year on Diwali. They have been doing this for the last 30 years.
Give expensive gifts to employees
Savjibhai had given three cars to his employees in 1995. He came into limelight when he gifted 1260 vehicles, more than 400 houses and jewelery sets to his employees in 2016.
Savjibhai believes that these gifts are a reward to the employees for working sincerely for the organization, due to which his company is progressing.
Till now he has gifted cars to 4000 employees, houses to 4000 employees, expensive jewelery and fixed deposits and insurance policies in banks.
In 2018, HK Exports gifted Mercedes cars to three of its employees who completed 25 years. The price of each car in this was more than Rs 1 crore.
Not only this, Savjibhai treats the employees of his company like family. Their parents are also sent on tour every year. He has been doing this for almost 30 years.
After receiving the Padma Shri award from the President in 2022, Savjibhai's family members gifted him a helicopter worth Rs 50 crore. Savjibhai also donated that helicopter for medical and emergency services.

Family tradition, training for job struggle
Before joining the family business, children are sent away from home without any means for training in basic job struggle. The family has a condition that wherever they go, they will not reveal the identity of the family. Will have to dress like a normal person. A feature phone is provided. Stay and eat at affordable places. Have to search for three jobs in a month.

Savjibhai Dholakia's son Dravya has done MBA from Pace University, New York. Dravya had gone to London with his father for a business meeting. Papa is fond of eating papad, so the son ordered papad along with the food in the restaurant.
When the bill came after the meal, the price of one papad was four pounds (approximately Rs 360). At that time, Savji did not say anything to his son, but decided in his mind that it was necessary to make his son understand the value of money.
When Dravya returned to Surat from New York, instead of joining the family business, Savjibhai sent him to Kochi city of Kerala to work as a fresher. Gave Rs 7000 to Dravya only to spend in emergency. There he worked at McDonald's, a shoe store, and a bakery. Dravya said that by going there he came to know what the life of a common man is, he was rejected at about 60 places.

In 2023, HK Design also made a world record. The company had made a ring which had more than 50 thousand diamonds on it. This ring is the ring with the most diamonds in the world. It has 50907 diamonds on it. It took 9 months to make the ring. This entire ring is made of recycled material. 18 carat recycled gold has been used in the ring. The diamonds in it have also been returned by the customers. The ring has been named Utieri.

More than 160 lakes built in dry areas
Savjibhai's HK Export also does social welfare work. The company has built more than 160 ponds in Saurashtra area of Gujarat. 2.5 lakh farmers of more than 300 villages have benefited from these ponds.
Savjibhai is also doing the work of reviving the Gagdiya river of this area. Savjibhai aims to conserve 100 billion liters of water by 2027. The company has so far planted more than 32 lakh trees.
