Both were brave warriors of Mahoba. He also fought against Prithviraj Chauhan's army. Both of them had discovered this Shaktipeeth of Maa Sharda amidst the forest and mountains. Both were great devotees of Mother Sharda.
The priest says, 'When the doors of the temple close at 12 o'clock in the night, not only the devotees but all the priests also come down from the mountain. No one can stay on this mountain till 5 in the morning. If anyone tries, he dies.

Mythological belief: Mother Sati's necklace fell here Shiva Purana and Devi Purana mention that Mata Sati was the first wife of Lord Shiva. She was the daughter of Prajapati Daksh. Daksha did not like Lord Shiva. After much persuasion and stubbornness of Sati, Daksh got Sati married to Shiva.
Daksha organized a huge yagya but did not invite his son-in-law and daughter to the yagya. Sati reached her father's yagya but was insulted by Daksh. Sati committed suicide by jumping into the Yagya Kund. Shiva sent Veerbhadra, who beheaded Daksha.
Shiva started performing the Tandava dance by holding Sati's body on his head. Due to this the balance of the universe started deteriorating. To protect the universe, Lord Vishnu started cutting Sati's body into pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra. Sati's body parts fell at 51 places. All these places became Shaktipeeths. The name of Maihar is also included in these, where the necklace of Mother Sati fell.
